Friday, August 14 7:30pmDelightful, Dazzling, Dragonflies (otherwise known as the Odonates....)
Did you know that Dragonflies have been on earth for about 300 million years, since the time of the dinosaurs and that the largest dragonfly fossil ever found has a wingspan of 3 feet? Or that they are predators, and mosquitoes are among their favorite foods? How about the fact that their compound eyes are comprised of thousands of tiny lenses, with which they can see not only forwards and sideways, but in back of them, as well? Come and learn more about dragonflies and damselflies from naturalist Annette Oliveira, who will present the basics of the Odonate life cycle, habitat, identification and observation techniques.
Annette is a graphic/web designer and digital photographer and has been a trained Dragonfly and Damselfly surveyor for the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the NYS Natural Heritage Program since 2005.
