Did you know that Dragonflies have been on earth for about 300 million years, since the time of the dinosaurs and that the largest dragonfly fossil ever found has a wingspan of 3 feet? Or that they are predators, and mosquitoes are among their favorite foods? How about the fact that their compound eyes are comprised of thousands of tiny lenses, with which they can see not only forwards and sideways, but in back of them, as well? Come and learn more about dragonflies and damselflies from naturalist Annette Oliveira, who will present the basics of the Odonate life cycle, habitat, identification and observation techniques.
Annette is a graphic/web designer and digital photographer and has been a trained Dragonfly and Damselfly surveyor for the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the NYS Natural Heritage Program since 2005. She was the program manager and naturalist at Kaler’s Pond Audubon Center in Center Moriches for 10 years.

We will provide guidance on how to get a closer look at these beautiful insects in their natural habitat. Unforgettable summer evenings begin with a concert surrounded by the picturesque vineyards of the East End. The East End Arts Council has arranged five concerts as part of the BNY Mellon Wealth Management Wine Press Concert Series 2009 schedule. The concerts take place at East End vineyards during sunset hours. All concerts are held rain or shine under a tent.

Join Ann Marie Borghese of Castello di Borghese Vineyard and Karen Lee of Sang Lee Farms for cooking demonstrations, wine pairing suggestions, lunch and wine tasting. Ann Marie and Karen will meet you at the Sang Lee Farms farm stand kitchen and together they will create The Tuesday Local Bounty Luncheon Club.
The day starts with a demonstration by Karen on how to use the freshest ingredients from her farm. She will show you how to create fabulous recipes that Ann Marie will pair with the perfect wine from her vineyard.
